IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF HEALTHCARE SERVICES THROUGH INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION

Last week during her working visit to Oskemen, Alison E. Shutt International Development Director of Clinic Royal Free , London, United Kingdom, visited The East Kazakhstan Regional Hospital. She also met with the Chief of the East Kazakhstan Healthcare Department, Marat Shoranov.  They’ve discussed a wide range of matters concerning Public Healthcare improvement in the region.

Daniyal Akhmetov, Akim of the East Kazakhstan region highly appreciates the efforts made by the EKRH’s Managing team to perform this project and ready to provide with financial support.

The main aim of Alison’s visit was signing the Memorandum of Understanding for long term collaboration between Royal Free and the East Kazakhstan regional Hospital. Chief Physician of the EKRH, Zhayik Zhumakhanov shared his objectives for the nearest future and together they made up a plan of arrangements for the next year, including visits of London colleagues to EK Regional Hospital as well as visits of Kazakhstani doctors to London for observational and working practice. She was shown the in-patient and out-patient hospital facilities and had meetings with managing staff of EKRH.  After ward round she shared her opinion and recommendations. She appreciated the efforts of Hospital’s Managing team to optimize inpatient and outpatient settings and integrate digital technologies. The main problem which is still considered to be an obstacle for Kazakhstani doctors is a language barrier. Improving their level of everyday and professional English skills they can have a good chance for international working opportunities to adopt the world class medical skills and bring them back to Kazakhstan.

The first Contract for RFL and EKRH’s collaboration was about Nurses education. To Mr Zhumakhanov’s  mind, the continuous medical education and training is crucial for the medical personnel. At present Nurses' education is very important because most of the medical activities are carried out by them according to Doctors’ recommendations and prescriptions. And in March as planned 3 Nurses from London are coming to Kazakhstan to arrange the training program for Kazakhstani Nurses, including lectures, seminars and practical training. The main topics will be the infection control and safety in the hospital, regarding both patients and personnel.

Managing team of the EKRH believes that Nurses education and advancing their skills can help to discover viable ways to improve quality of patient care they deliver.

This visit meant a good start for Hospitals’ collaboration, which will bring outcomes for EKRH and would potentially be beneficial for local doctors.
